In his book, The Mass: The Presence of the Sacrifice of the Cross, Charles Cardinal Journet provides a following insight into the question: What is offered at Mass?
There is a multiplicity & unity of the offering:
(1) Unity: There is only one thing offered at Mass – Christ on the Cross.
(2) Multiplicity: Christ allows us, as He had done for Mary & John, to offer with Him His own life.
- The Church offers 3 oblations: (1) bread & wine, (2) Christ, (3) her very self.
- These are all mysteriously 1 in Christ.
