Scientific Tests – Medjugorje Visionaries

After years of hypnotizing us, poking us with needles, hooking us up to monitors, testing us with lie detectors, and even asking over a thousand psychiatric questions in one day, various teams of doctors and scientists found that several inexplicable things happened to us at the beginning of each ecstasy. Our eyes all fell on the same point simultaneously, and our eye movements ceased. When we spoke to Our Lady, our larynxes stopped moving and no sound was detected, but other aspects of speech remained intact. And we were virtually impervious to loud noises blasted in our ears and bright lights shined in our eyes. One neuro-physiologist described those of us he tested as “partially and significantly disconnected from the exterior world” during our ecstasies, and “completely normal, relaxed, well-integrated and happy” when we were not experiencing an apparition. Another doctor, who had been skeptical when he first heard about the apparitions, concluded in his report that the phenomenon was “scientifically inexplicable.” He found no elements of deceit or hallucination and added, “No scientific discipline seems able to describe these phenomena. We would be quite willing to define them as a state of active, intense prayer, partially disconnected from the outside world, a state of contemplation with a separate person whom they alone can see, hear and touch.” Of course, I did not need a doctor to tell me what I was experiencing, or to reassure me that I was sane and honest, but I understood that the medical tests were important for others. 233.
