1. Preoccupied, Managing Director God

Unloving God-Image: Preoccupied, Managing Director God.

  • Description: Preoccupied, Managing Director God is unavailable, busy, disinterested, and impatient. He has responsibility over so many “big” things that He can’t give His time and energy to the “little” things of my life.
  • Potential Reasons for this God-Image: Your parents were distressed with limited resources (financial concerns, time constraints, etc.). As a result, you did not voice your concerns and needs so that they would reward you for being “low maintenance”.

Unlovable Self-Image: I am forgotten and neglected (“Worthless Servant” – “Forgotten-About Frieda”).

  • Description: Since Preoccupied, Managing Director God is too busy with the “big” things of the universe, you try to be “low maintenance” and not disturb God with your problems. I avoid vulnerable prayer, intercessory prayer.
  • Scripture Passage: “How long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I carry sorrow in my soul, grief in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” (Psalm 13:2-3).

Loving God-Image: Patient God.

  • Description: Jesus revealed that God is personable with me and always available for me. Even though God is all-powerful and has “big” things to focus on, He is also concerned about the “little” things of my life and patiently helps me out.
  • Scripture Passage: “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Luke 12:6-7).

Lovable Self-Image: I’m wanted.

  • Description: I’m worth God’s time and concern. I’m so important to God that He is personally involved in even the smallest details of my life.
